Hello from UK

So, I am probably one of the oldest and most inept app developers here so it's gonna take some time to get the basics down. Nonetheless, I wanted to say hi and tell you a little bit about why I am here. I am not trying to make a million $'s from app development (although that would be nice), just have some fun, learn some cool stuff, hang out with some great people and hopefully create some useful apps for for my travel business that will help my clients. It would be nice to have some mentors help me, I am tech savy but nothing prepared me for Eclipse :( so struggling a little with basic usage of the software / emulator etc. I intend to perceiver so if anyone wants to help an old newbie become a great app developer, I am a willing student. All the best David

Hi Movius! Yeah, Eclipse is a bit of a bear to get a handle on; a few of us still struggle. Fortunately there are some real stars in the BT community who are happy to help with Android (and iOS) development, and can step in to lend a hand from time to time. So Welcome to Buzztouch! Take a look around, watch/participate in the BTU courses (like you have been) and slowly but surely things will start making sense. And when you have the inevitable question, the forum is the right place to be! Cheers! -- Smug

Thanks Jake - i'll take a look at those resources. I am working through the buzztech university stuff - lesson by lesson and hope that some of it sticks. I actually managed to get the emulutor to run a hello world app so feeling pretty pleased with myself at this moment in time :} Thanks and regards David

@Smug - thanks for the supportive words. I'm a big believer in community so a fan of forums and self help groups. I chose buzztouch over black box "press here" solutions because of its approach to education and development and of course, most importantly, you guys. Regards David

Hi David, Welcome to Buzztouch! You simply won't find a better community on the web anywhere...hands down! This is absolutely the best place to learn app development, and Buzztouch is the best platform to get your hands dirty with. For some Eclipse tutorials, give my YouTube channel a look. I have several there that show you how to install the ADT Bundle, and how to go from your control panel to the emulator. http://www.youtube.com/user/gonorthwest Never hesitate to shout out when you need some help, or just want to celebrate a success! We're here for you! Mark

Mark, David and LA Thanks for the warm welcome and words of support. I am going to give this all I've got and while I don't consider myself "tech talented" I do enjoy a challenge. And boy, is eclipse looking like a challenge! Fear not, there will plenty of dumb questions in the forums I can assure you :) Best David

Well hello there! Welcome to the very nice Buzztouch community. I've stuck around for over two years, and not regretting it. I know you're a bit far, but I just thought I'd let you know that I run the Buzztouch UK meetups in Oxford. We gather a few people each meetup, to discuss apps! We do troubleshooting and various different things. I know you're far, but if you wouldn't like to come, you are very welcome to, although there is no pressure.

@Thomas - thanks for the info and invite. Actually my step daughter lives in Oxford and I work with a developer there. I used to live in Wantage so I know Oxford very well. Yes, we are pretty far from everywhere really but if I make a dent in this apps mularky I'll make the effort to get down to see you all. Thanks again for letting me know about your group.

You must be the first person I know on Buzztouch who has lived near Oxford.

You deserve a special welcome! :p PS. When you refresh the forum page, it duplicates your post. It's a really annoying bug that you will just get used to.

Ahh! Eclipse is a challenge to start with, I would have started with Xcode, easier and friendlier way to get into it all! David https://buzztouchmods.com/market
