Hi, I'm new to BuzzTouch

Hi All! I had an idea for an app but was overwhelmed by the amount of information online. I thought it would take me ages to create my first app, learn programming etc. Well... I came across BuzzTouch and it seems quite possible now. Let’s see how it goes. Cheers! Anetta

Hi Anetta, Welcome. Buzztouch makes apps an easy thing to make, and trust me, I've made three! So i could help noticing that you're from London. This Thursday, there is a Buzztouch meetup in Oxford. This will be the last for a few months yet. Last month, we had a fantastic day, but this was a one-off event. We had people flying from the USA, Italy and Portugal. This one won't be so big, but I hope to have four or five attending, and myself. So here's the details: Thursday 28th November 2013 16:00 - 18:00 (with pub break) Berlitz Langauge Centre 131 High Street Oxford OX1 4DH Of course, there's no charge. Hi Soulman and welcome! I would suggest to watch the videos, at least that's what I did. They give you a good picture of the process of creating apps. Also, I think it's good to use the forum as the people here are very helpful. Good luck!

Howdy Anetta -- a jolly welcome into the best digital community on the planet! At the Oxford meetup, you will realize that our analog equivalents are quite nice also. I wear my two stars with pride because I intend to stay away from that dastardly Android critter! There will be no learning in that space for me. Hahahaha :-) -- Niraj For those who think I am dead serious, indeed I am. I will wait for Android Studio to emerge from beta. I have no need to mess with that Eclipse. In the meanwhile, I am having a ball learning iOS development by making a few plugins. Now ... Back to Anetta's glorious entrance into BuzzTouch!!!

Android's not too bad Niraj, once you get over the initial learning curve. I do like Android Studio much better than Eclipse though ... except when it comes to using maps. Still no XCode, but it's a big step in the right direction.

I agree that Android is more dominant (only because it's open source), but as App Development goes, the figures show a different story: iOS devices: 600 million (as of June 2013) Devices that have at least 10 apps downloaded: 99.2% Devices with at least one paid app downloaded: 77.1% Android devices: 1 Billion (as of September 2013) Devices that have at least 10 apps downloaded: 46.0% Devices with at least one paid app downloaded: 5.7%

I don't have a preference over either one - for me it's whoever the best target market is and what the device preference is in that market, and if I hit a winner app I'll probably do it for both devices.

If you consider that any app store, online today is nothing more then a growing search engine/e-commerce hub for downloadable products built by companies and individual developers. For example the app store vs google play vs windows marketplace, there is still a lot of room to type in a key word in the stores search and see if you should develop an app that has the least amount of competitors. Especially if you can see how to improve on an app that got there before you. Imagine the person that did the first iPhone flashlight app, being the first in your category has it's advantages. As a developer in my market space, I have no choice but to be a full service developer, educate myself on the emerging technologies to stay competitive (3 star here, actually outside of BT, blackberry, windows, webOS, Tizen now). I'm really getting the hang of this. I see the future of apps being the freemium model, with inApp purchasing, hopefully better, less obtrusive mobile ads. I'm on track to have my clients offer product placement within their apps. Just like any medium. there's still much to be made being a developer right now, and as devices get more high tech and affordable. There will always be people that have that great idea, but needs people like us to build it for them. I say don't hate..emulate.

Someone just sent me a message asking me to explain product placement in my clients app. Real world example. So everyone can get the gist of how I sell this. (just please don't anyone leak this and use for your own knowledge.) Client: http://jackiewarner.com App & Website Developer: Ed Reyes (our conversation a month ago) Jackie: Ed I know building an App and a new website for 2014 is going to be expensive, any suggestions on how I can recoup on my costs. Ed: Well, let's see you are working on a new fitness/nutrition book, you are also going to release new workout tracks with your new band. How big is your audience? Jackie: I have 70,000+ active subscribers in my mailchimp account. New York Times Best Seller and my Bravo TV Shows Ed: Ok, let's use 70,000 as our base, so even if only 20-40% of your fans download your free App, this is what we can do. 1. inApp link to publisher's website or Amazon for you new book. 2. since I have to shoot video for the website, to tie into exercises in your book, let's approach a gym and say hey "we're scoping out a location to shoot my fitness videos that will appear on my website and my mobile App." We tell the gym owner, we shoot the intro video with, "Hi I'm Jackie Warner, I'm at x gym, here in x location with x owner. Let's get started." then her ending part of the video credits. "thanks for joining me today, if you're in the area of x gym, use promo code, "jackie" to get a discount on your membership. Make sure you subscribe to my push notifications, we may be doing our next workout in your gym." (take away from this model, not only did we bring a celebrity to a non franchised gym, we get the facility for free and earn a percentage of any new member signups) we've got other locations and many more exercises to shoot future episodes. 3. since you are recording new music tracks for people to download a free 30sec) and a paid .99 one for the full 5 min version, we have to shoot a promo reel for your music anyway, lets do the same for club owners, "Hi I'm Jackie Warner along with my band partner DJ Wendy and we're here at x club in x location with x owner, let get this party started." We have a QR code at the door and on the flyers, saying scan this and get 1 free paid download from any of her 8 tracks. or a discount on her new book release. And that's just to get started. So really for the client to be able to rely on grass roots marketing, self promotion and bartering. This is the thought process that I use to land big clients. They are most happy when you can show them, they have the means to not only break even, but make a profit and it's a win win for the other parties as well. By providing alternative solutions and demystifying this whole App thing to your client, you'll be their go to person and they promote you to their friends. Hey maybe that gym or that club owner needs an App? They have members and a built in audience as well. This kind of publicity makes you a hero to them. How do I know this works, I know the Agencies in LA that pay my celebrity friends to say, this tweet is brought to you by, Dream Water. They're not endorsing or saying they use the product but because of their audience, these agencies pay them thousands per tweet. Ugh, worst is when they say hey Ed let's go to vegas, I have to walk the red carpet at this club, say a few words then fly back I want you to be there to record stuff for the website. Sure are they paying you? yeah $20,000. Ugh I should be so lucky. So another tid bit into my business model, hope this helps for anyone pitching ideas to the clients. They don't have to be celebrities, you just have to analyze what works best for your client. But the idea of cross promotion and product placement, seems like an alternative to serving up ads for pennies. Ed

Your information is always a valuable eye opener, Ed. Thanks for opening our eyes to a lot of marketing ideas that normally don't get into my geeky head. Let me help you with the Asia Pacific office of Ed Reyes International. But only the technical part. I'm not much of a people person at all, lol! Cheers! -- Smug
