My journey was the other way around. First android and then ios. Believe me, i created my first android app within couple of hours whereas it took me about a year to proceed with ios. Other guys here have a different experience with android though. Yes, eclipse is not that user friendly and android acts a bit moody sometimes because of eclipse but once you get an idea how it works, its as easy as a piece of cake. IOS on the other hand seems easy because of xcode. I first got few hurdles with xcode but now i can safely say that xcode is far better than eclipse. You need to watch all the videos and read all the tutorials from the How To's section. Once you do that neither ios nor android is as much difficult as it seems at first.

I gave Android a shot and found it to be a LOT more confusing than iOS. Of course, as with anything, if you're willing to put the time in you'll get it eventually. I'm assuming you're referring to the tutorials by GoNorthWest? Strange, they were really helpful for me..maybe a lot of stuff has changed since then

I opened up eclipse and it's called ADT and looks a lot different than eclipse as in the tutorial I have downloaded with my compiled code

I believe that the eclipse used by Mark in his tutorial was perhaps the Galileo. The current version eclipse is Juno. Galileo is some 2-3 years old software and in between Galileo and Juno was Indigo version of eclipse. I started to use eclipse from Indigo version and Indigo had more than 8 different version upgrades. The Juno (current version) too had lot of upgrades since its release. Though the UI has changed a bit the basic functions have not changed at all. Just try to find the correct functions by playing a bit with eclipse.

Yes, you need to install the android sdk from sdk manager. Remember that you need to install the Google API level 8 (for android core 2.0) and Google API level 14 (for android core 3.0) apps. Its GOOGLE and not ANDROID.

You can ignore warnings but the errors are the ones you should look upon. It is difficult to tell you the solution unless you provide some detailed error log or some screenshot of your console. Anyway i will be logging off now since its already 1 am here. Will reply to you after few hours in the morning.

In my experience, Eclipse is the most confusing thing on this planet! I've spent months trying to get the a basic app working, then I decided, let's just go the easy way. I think Xcode is miles better than Eclipse. It's so much easier to set up and run. Typical for Apple, of course... they make lives better. That's why I also much prefer iOS. R.java was modified manually! Reverting to generated version This is what happens when I try suggested fixes when I hover over errors Think I'm going to get some bananas and practise my juggling skills

At the end of the day, you're much more likely to get more downloads on iOS devices than Android. The figures speak for themselves, so here they are: iOS devices: 600 million (as of June 2013) Devices that have at least 10 apps downloaded: 99.2% Devices with at least one paid app downloaded: 77.1% Android devices: 1 Billion (very recently) Devices that have at least 10 apps downloaded: 46.0% Devices with at least one paid app downloaded: 5.7%

You may also want to check out Go North West's Videos on you tube. He has a 20 minute tutorial on both OS's and multiple windows versions. Worth the time to figure out which one is suited for your needs. I found Android confusing at first. And it's still temperamental. But my biggest issue with Android isn't the code, it's the xml layout. Cheers! -- Smug

Hi Chris, nice to know about you being from Stafford Cricket Club. So we got someone other than me on this forum who is a cricket fan like me. This is really cool. I see that the screenshot shows all the four errors in the class files. Each error in a different class file. I also gather from the errors you are getting is that you are probably using the new core 3.0 for this app coz i got some similar errors while i was testing the new core when it went public. I have not got enough time to play with the new core for android because this was the very time i switched to ios. First we will talk about the error you are getting in the BT_screen_customHTML.java, BT_screen_customURL.java and BT_viewUtilities.java class files. As stated above i got these same errors in the same class files while testing the new core. First in the BT_screen_customHTML.java class file go to line 117 and comment out that line. Similarly comment out the code at line 115 in the BT_screen_customURL.java class file. And line 378 in the BT_viewUtilities.java class file. This will sort out the errors in those class files. Commenting out means inserting comments in the source code. Usually it is done by using double forward slash- //. So suppose the line no 117 in the BT_screen_customHTML class file is- webView.getSettings().setPluginsEnabled(true); then you need to put the forward slashes in front of this line of code. It will look like this after you put it- //webView.getSettings().setPluginsEnabled(true); This is the exact code in all those class files which is showing this error. Just comment out that line and you will be fine. As far as the error on line 207 of the WB_screen_menuImage.java class file is concerned, i am not sure about that coz i have not used this plugin in any of my android bt apps. However i can tell you about it once i take a look at your project.

@Thomas- Those figures are really impressive. All my android apps are free apps with ads and believe me, i earn a lot more than any of my ios paid apps. @Smug- This is the very reason why i like android... The layout file. It is much easy to have a screen layout using xml than interface builder...

@Sandeep… you have GOT to write up a tutorial on how to use the Android Layouts… I find them to be extremely difficult to get the way I'd like them. With respect to Alignment, placement of objects, and other sundry things, it's a real chore to get it to look right… and I usually cannot. The ease of drag and drop with the iOS interface builder may have me jaded... Anything you can contribute would be appreciated on a grand new scale :) Cheers! -- Smug

You need to create a simulator with google api level 8 in case of old core 2.0 and google api level 14 in case of new core.

Which core are you using? Are you using new core? I am not aware of new development of bt new core but it seems you have to include some libraries like google services to the new cores project. Check the pdf file which comes with the project file you downloaded from control panel for more info.

PDF file gives instructions but they bear no relation to the eclipse version I am using. I think problem maybe with my build can't find an option for the build target. My eclipse opens as ADT

Sandeep is on the money, as always. If you're trying a BTv3 Android project, you'll want 'Android' API v11 If you're trying a BTv2 Android project, you'll want 'Google' API v8 Those are selected in your project 'properties' via right-click, or menu, with the project selected. Cheers! -- Smug

In that same property page, but on a different 'tab' (and the tab I am talking about is the 'Android' tab just under the 'resources') is the place you want to change your API… Cheers! -- Smug

Do you see the left hand side panel in the window, there is option named Android (second in list). Click it and there you will find to set your properties for the app. You can check which api is already selected or you can select google api 14 from there. (You can select google api 14 irrespective whether your app is bt core 2 and core if you want).

Right instead of jumping in with both feet and getting nowhere have started from scratch using the guide in the windows environment. Installed Java Development Kit Installed Android SDK Instead of getting to the screen with all the listed APi's etc I just have Android SDK tools showing & Platform Tools
