Update process

Hi, I'm updating from 2.1.9 to 3.0.0. This is my first ever update. I've backed up my 2.1.9 'BT-server' folder and uploaded the 3.0.0 'BT-server' folder. Am I correct in thinking my next step, before visiting the 'BT-server/install' screen, is to: a. overwrite the version 3.0.0 'files' folder with my old version 2.1.9 'files' folder and b. overwrite the version 3.0.0 'config.php' file with my old version 2.1.9 'config.php' file ?? I'm finding the update instructions in the .pdf a little confusing. Thanks in advance

your 'files' directory should remain untouched. You probably want a backup of it just in case however. Providing you've made a backup just to be safe, you should be ready to proceed. Just unzip the package, upload it via FTP and overwrite your existing installation. Then go through the installation process 'as if it were new' providing the same information as before. (www.yourbtserver.com/install/) Then once installation is finished, open the 'new' config.php file and ensure all of the fields are populated and correct. If not, populate and correct them with the same values as you had in your old config.php file. Once that's good to go, remove the 'install' directory and update your plugins via control panel. Good Luck! Cheers! -- Smug

Your /files directory is very precious. This is where your plugins, apps, images, themes and stuff are kept. You would be correct in assuming you will need to transfer the /files directory from the 2.1.9 backup to 3.0.0. You can do this is whatever order you like. As Smug says, just go to the install page. It doesn't matter if you decide to transfer the /files directory before or after, although before is probably better as you will be able to go right from the start.
