Yup it was. 2 days of testing bald spot and there you go! Simple solution was to update PHP on server. Because of my grandfathered status I have access to two hosting accounts one on Hostgator (which worked) other on (BlueHost) Broken reversed engineered and found the solution. Simple PHP upgrade

That is a good quick fix! :-) For folks on other hosts, if they don't have an ability to switch as you did, we still need to find the root cause. I suspect that particular PHP is compiled with the JSON module and configured with a few critical settings. The hunt is what exactly are those things ... Yeehaw! -- you are merrily on the way to making BT v3 apps! :-) -- Niraj

My default was set PHP 5.2 (Single php.ini) and moved to PHP 5.4 @Niraj I am not sure if this should be a Buzztouch issue. Too many Shared hosting accounts out there to be responsible for them not upgrading for their customers. Buzztouch has no control over PHP upgrade choices on other hosting accounts. Low cost shared hosting companies are notorious for upselling customers knowing this.

Good find. But i use GoDaddy hosting for my self host and i do not find any option for PHP 5.4. It only shows PHP 5.2 and 5.3. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/61663890/test/Screen%20Shot%202013-12-08%20at%2011.49.10%20pm.png

It looks like what I found throughout their forums GoDaddy in the ultimate character of upselling responds to this issue "Our Web Hosting does not support PHP 5.4. If you require this version of PHP, you may want to consider using a VPS." Why I personally do not like Godaddy=Elephant Killers. Sucks for all the Godaddy folks out there :(

I guess there are a couple of choices here. 1 Buy the VPS from Godaddy 2 Switch to Hostgator or Bluehost (gator seems to be better) 3 Stick with Buzztouch Hosting My opinion...not Buzztouch's opinion

I think changing the host is better idea since my hosting plan with GoDaddy is going to end on 27 Jan anyway. I think i should use Hostgator since most bt users are using it and good thing is that the price here is too low as it has been recently launched in India.

@sandeep. What verion is runninng now. Did you change it to 5.3? Quoting David: "Had to go up in my long-ass post (longest in a very long time!) to see! PHP Version 5.3.2 on the buzztouch.com servers." Sheri went from 5.2 to 5.4. Maybe 5.3 will work.

I switched from GoDaddy to HostGator, and HostGator is much, much easier to use. You will really love it, Sandeep. Find a host that has cpanel and phpMyAdmin.

I am of the belief, upgrading php (if possible) is simply a quick fix and NOT a solution to the problem! If the solution is simply upgrading php, this raises several questions. Compilation of the Json and Reading & writing to the MySQL database seems to be the core of the problem. There are numerous other parts of BT that do similar operations, eg. Adding users, adding screens, changing options etc that are all working fine, so why is it just occurring when adding child items? Do those particular functions use a different code method? If so, why? And why cannot the same methods be used for the child script? I therefore believe the problem lies somewhere in the BT code relating to this. If BT is to become all it can be, it needs to be universal and not rely on having to continually upgrade core components such as php and MySQL every time something is changed. Whilst my coding is limited, I, and hopefully others will continue to find a TRUE fix for this problem!

Well after several hours of work, I have officially changed host providers to host gator since my previous host didn't allow me to change my php version. I have everything set up, FINALLY and now I am able to use the menu plugins! Thanks, Sheri!...it was definitely a pain in the ass but just glad that the migration process is over.

Glad to hear Waystiid TIme! I seriously burned up my Kaleidoscope program to see if I could find anything wrong with the Buzztouch code it's obviously something to do with PHP upgrades. So much fun when you are on deadline to get stuff up in the itunes before 12/10 to hopefully be considered for review. @BigPaul sorry you feel that way about not being a "True" fix but I thought I share my finding after hours of comparing code. Honestly, hope you find a solution soon :) We are all so lucky to have Buzztouch's server as a back up with these little annoyances huh? Looking forward to great creations! Sheri

Hmmm So I have heard a lot of folks saying the same thing...maybe I should be clearer a communication problem with php.....so why does it work on 5.4? Have you checked these libraries to see? I also remembered a step that may help too and that is to clean and optimize data base....not for the faint of heart.....use at your own risk: https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/496 http://jp1.php.net/manual/en/migration53.deprecated.php So many people including David have spent hours and days with it. It makes no sense to me?

@atrain yup, everything you said cannot be truer, quick fixes are great if you have a client or a timeline to get a project done, but inevitably, it's not going to hold for long. Let us know if you need any help if you find any time to look into this yourself. Cheers, David https://buzztouchmods.com/hire-me/
