It's almost time to retire my first Generation iPad.

It's almost to the point where iOS 5.1 compatibility isn't a priority anymore… What to do with my 1st Gen iPad, in pristine condition? http://www.awesomeinventions.com/shop/ipad-arcade-machine/ It's a thought. I wonder if there is any vertical market 'baby trainer' app devices out there? Cheers! -- Smug

I guess I'm not alone. Pretty annoying really, that the 1st gen iPad only hoes up to 5.1, at least 6 would of been nice.

While I agree that developing for Gen 1 iPad compatibility is not a priority, I still find mine to be a very useful device: Great browsing experience, great movie playback, game machine and social media machine. I know I'll be using mine for quite a while longer I'll do know I'll have to bite the bullet and get something that can run the latest iOS soon to develop and test on. William

I love that arcade! Super cool! I have a Gen 1 iPad as well, and while the kids use it quite a bit, it'll eventually be useless as more and more apps require newer iOS levels to run. I guess as long as we can surf the web and watch videos, it's worth something! I just wish it had a camera on it! Mark

It does rule and it's on sale for $50 at Toys R Us right now FYI... iCade has some other products too - a mini version for iphone and ipods too and one that looks like a nintendo DS controller. icade even has an SDK if you're a game developer and want to utilize icade for your own games. and beyond the iCade apps, iMAME4all is something well worth looking into ;)

Here's another use... you don't need to understand German to get it. She's basically asking him how he likes the ipad they got him for his birthday... http://www.snotr.com/video/8965/

Also at TrU is the iCade "Core", which has the same controller/buttons as the full icade, but doesn't have the upper arcade styled wood enclosure. On clearance for $29.99 And yes, if you de-commission your iPad from normal use and dedicate it to gaming, then iMame4all is a MUST!

When I got my iPad 1st Gen, I knew it was going to be the start of something great. I was one of those people who got it the first day... now time has rolled by and it has become useless. However, I do still use it often and I use it as an advertising device. I will sometimes stick the iPad in the window, and play a slideshow advertising my apps.
