Finally got my Mac mini web server running

I've always had my own web server running around in a cupboard with millions of wires, but today is the day when my internet presence is hosted on a single Mac mini and one Ethernet wire. I wanted to announce this for a couple of reasons. First of all, I'd like to ask if possible, could fellows test my website to make sure it's working: annandaleapps.com But the second reason is that I want to give some web storage to you guys. I want to share back to the community that gave me so much. I've got a 3TB hybrid drive in there, and I can almost gaurantee I won't fill up half of it. So therefore I invite fellow members of our Buzztouch community to host with me, because you earned it. It's my gift to you. You heard me... I'm giving away some of my disk space so you can host files online. All you will need to do is direct your domains to my Mac mini and you should be done. For the moment, I want to test and check for any inconsistencies in my server, but I believe that in the New Year I can deliver. Who wants some?

I can say that it's online and shows up fine and speedy. I've got all the space I can use, but I'm sure it won't be long before you have a few thousand requests ;) Cheers! -- Smug

Loads fine for me Thomas. A bit slow, but probably because I'm across the pond. Be careful with lending out too much of that hard drive - 3TB will go faster than you think :)

I'm using OS X Server mainly. I mainly found difficulties with the BT self hosting, so that's why I want to test everything first. Getting HTML and PHP pages working is actually relatively easy. SQL is another thing altogether, and I'm not 100% confident I've got it right yet. The current set-up is pretty neat. The Mac Mini can be remotely accessed, but I tend to put a thunderbolt cable between it and my iMac if I want to monitor various activities. The thing that surprised me is that the Mac mini is really not in any strain - the fan hardly ever comes on and it is totally silent. A web server does not need to be powerful - it just needs to be consistent.

Sort of. The Mac didn't come with Apple's so-called Fusion Drive, but I installed a hybrid drive from Amazon. This is basically the same - 128GB of SSD and 3TB of HDD. Fusion was not an Apple technology, it's just a fancy name for Hybrid drive.
