Scringo - is it all that its cracked up to be?

Yup... all i'm seeing is a sidebar, with invite friends, a radar of where current users are, and a facility to message friends. Whilst im sure this will prove a useful addition amongst the 'right apps', i cant help but feel a little underwhelmed by it, or that i am missing something?

Nothing is ever going to be suitable for all apps of course. It isn't just a sidebar, far from it. It's like your own social network - when set up and implemented properly - within your app. Discoverability + engagement, what's not to like. It offers so much more than a radar and messaging. Once you have played around you'll see. Users love it, devs love it as it is essentially half a dozen plugins or more in a few lines of code. Play around, log into your Scringo CP and see all the customisation options. Happy Friday!

It also has the ability to code in anything else you might want too! (if thats your thing). I dunno I'd say its pretty powerful. At least it provides some user-user interaction. Definitely for the right apps though.

Im testing it, and it does seem to have a lot of potential.

Scringo's very cool. I have a feature in an app that allows a user to write a note and choose to post the note in the scringo activity feed to be seen by other users and on facebook/twitter. I've spoken to Ofer at scringo and they're working on the ability for users to respond to content in the feed and show the responses in defined places within the app. Basically scringo does/will allow tight integration of social elements throughout your app at multiple points and in different ways. Awesome.

The Radar feature interests me most, esp the chat. I just didn't see where you had any back-end control over the chat. Can you create rooms, private rooms, kick users, etc. It never worked in my initial testing so i looked at other SDK's that would allow more 'anonoymous' type chat users. I've had a few clients that want login capability to the app. When I suggest using FB or Twitter to authenticate - it's always a big NO THANKS. People just don't seem to like the idea of sharing personal info in an app yet and FB/Twitter integration seems to be the lynchpin of services like Scringo and Socialize.

Hi @ATRAIN53, how's it going? I think the app demographic probably also has a bearing. I have an app aimed at teens that has over 10k scringo users, I guess facebook/twitter is just second nature to them - some of them haven't known a life without social networks! Whereas an older demographic is probably going to be more cautious.

Exactly. The stuff I see teens post on FB and Twitter (and then later regret when they start job hunting....) If I could follow up every 'Social Media' webinar I have to sit thru with a 'Social Engineering' webinar - no one would use FB or Twitter again with their name.
